This correspondence consists of documents and scrapbook material collected by Augustine Haines (1810-1873), the father of George Augustine Haines (1843-1915). The largest part of the collection is the series of letters written by George Augustine Haines to his father while travelling in Europe from 1866 to 1868. Letters written by Samuel Haines II (1780-1825), George Augustine Haines' grandfather, to his father Samuel Haines I (1747-1838) and other members of the Haines family, are scattered between 1809 and 1827. These letters were collected and saved by Augustine Haines from various sources. There is also incoming and outgoing correspondence of Augustine Haines from family members and political associates. |
